The Building Arts Department includes the Foundation courses offered in the first year and the Capstone classes offered in the fourth year. These classes form the beginning and the end of a student’s education at ACBA and ensure that all students, regardless of their trade, begin and end with the same experiences.
This department also oversees the elective courses that are offered by ACBA. It is the goal of ACBA to build a stable of electives that will be offered regularly according to enrollment and student interest. While there are no firm criteria for electives, some connection to the building arts is expected. The main goal being to help students find new ways to connect their interests and experiences to other fields of study.
Examples of electives proposed or offered at ACBA in the past include: Green Architecture, Gilding, Medieval Studies, Non-Western Architecture, Landscape Architecture, History and Theory of City Planning, and study trips to England and Italy.
