*Foundations
All students take the foundation course in the fall of their first year.  This course provides an introduction to the history and practice of all the building arts as well as offering hands on experience with contemporary construction practices.

In the spring semester students are divided into three broad trade categories:  Wood Trades, Trowel Trades and Metal Trades.

**Trade Areas
In the second year, students are divided into their specific trade area:  Architectural Stone, Carpentry, Forged Architectural Ironwork, Plaster Working, Preservation Masonry or Timber Framing.

***Trade Core/Electives
Core courses are required for a particular trade area and must be taken.  Trade electives vary from year to year and may overlap with other trades.

†Students must take four (4) electives for a total of twelve (12) hours.  Electives may be taken during the third and fourth year or during Maymester or Summer Sessions.  These courses are interdisciplinary in nature and vary from year to year.  All of them will have some building arts connection though they are not limited to one particular trade.

Internships
Associate Degree—One internship is required to receive an associate degree. This will take place during the 1st summer of the two year program.
Bachelors Degree—Three internships are required to receive a Bachelors Degree. These will take place during the summer of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year of the program.
