All students at ACBA learn to draw by hand following methods and approaches developed during the Renaissance. We believe that drawing provides students a way of relating spatially and spiritually to the world around them. The discipline and patience required to draw well also help students develop their own approach to college that is more in line with the best practices in the building arts.
In addition to hand drawing, students learn the most current methods of computer assisted drawing allowing them to quickly adapt their ideas to a larger or smaller scale as needed. A job skill in itself, computer assisted design is also a research tool that allows an artisan to experiment with an idea before entering the workshop.
Finally, this department also teaches classes in the theory and practice of design. Encouraging students to express themselves creatively while remaining grounded in the practical concerns of the real world.
